The International Relations Office encourages the international students to engage in voluntary community outreach projects. There are a number of social impact community projects you as an International staff and students can engage in.
One of such projects that the previous exchange students started, is the Acholi Women self-help group located in the University’s neighborhood. It is a group of about twenty women; some are widows, single mothers, survivors of the civil war in Northern Uganda and others infected with HIV/AIDS. We support them financially through directly providing them with the basic needs of life, psychologically by showing them love and counselling to those who need it and also train them with self-sustaining entrepreneurship skills. We have so far equipped them with bead making skills (they make different beautiful products from paper beads), Soap making skills and shaggy carpet marketing skills.
